New Acoustics Building
Our new £24M Acoustics building will open in summer 2027.
For over 60 years, Salford Acoustics has shaped how we hear the world, from leading pioneering research projects and setting industry and government standards to influencing the sound of products sold worldwide.

The new acoustics institute will see a step change in the innovation and development which the University of Salford can offer, enabling forensic precision engineering on everything from AI-enabled hearing aids for music, to the noise that heat pumps create.
- Full anechoic chamber.
- Two hemi-anechoic chambers, including one big enough for a car.
- Building Acoustics Test Suite including horizontal and vertical transmission.
- Two perception testing rooms including sleep laboratory.
- National Institute for Airborne Acoustic Metrology.
- Calibration laboratory.
- Vibroacoustics laboratory.
